Top 20 music list with Excel (works with Excel 2013 and newer)
If you have ever listened to America’s Top 40 on the radio you will enjoy using their website AT40.com. You can look at the latest top 40 songs for the week, as well as previous weeks’ list. You will use Excel to organize the top 20 songs by ranking in different weeks and you will format the data, sort it, and filter it and learn how to add symbols into cells. This is a practice exercise for Microsoft Excel 2013 or above. You are downloading a zipped file with an 8 page PDF file with step-by-step instructions and a sample Excel worksheet.
In this lesson your students will create a list of 20 songs from the Top40 web site then practice formatting data, inserting a table, inserting symbols, using the paint formatter, sorting, and filtering.
Teacher’s Note: The way I use this lesson is as individual practice after I have instructed students using a different example. So first, I have all students follow me as I work in Excel creating a list and formatting my favorite songs. Once everyone has completed this I pass out this packet so they work individually following this step-by-step lesson.
